Goldfinger

Goldfinger

The first huge blockbuster of the Bond films. 1964. Director: Guy Hamilton.

Bond (Sean Connery) arrives at Miami Beach and stayes at the fabulous Hilton hotel there. He meet his friend, Felix Leiter (Cec Linder) who's a CIA agent, and Leiter tells him about the rich man Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) who also stays at the hotel.
Goldfinger is a fat man, obsessed with gold. He's incredibly rich, and is playing cards to get even more. Bond, watching him in a game, wonders how he can win all the time, but soon find out the truth behind it. From a balcony, the sexy Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton) watch the other players cards with a spyglass. She then tell Goldfinger, who then knows how to play.
Bond sabotages for Goldfinger, who's quick to send his henchman Oddjob (Harold Sakata) to kill the poor Jill. Bond finds her dead, painted with gold paint. He understand that Goldfinger is much more dangerous then he seems to be.
Bond's mission is to find out what Goldfinger is up to, he's smuggling gold and then MI6 doesn't know anything more. With his brand new Aston Martin, filled with tricky gadgets by Q, Bond starts investigating. Goldfinger is up to something big, but what? Bond must find out what, and the time is short!
This film is good. It has style, class and a great title song sung by Shirley Bassey. Harold Sakata's Oddjob is a well remembered caracter with his killing hat. Shirley Eaton who also stars in an episode of the great series "The Saint", is also well remembered as "the golden girl" Jill Masterson. A nice detail in the film, things like that make films so much better.
Honor Blackman as the lesbian Pussy Galore, who later falls in love with Bond, is the first Bond girl who actually can do something. Not just a helpless girl to kiss. But she's kissable too.
