Intolerable Cruelty

Intolerable Cruelty

Catherine Zeta-Jones and George Clooney stars in the Coen brother's black comedy. 2003. Director: Joel and Ethan Coen.
Miles Massey (George Clooney) is a successful divorce attorney who allways succeed. He's even come up with his own prenuptial agreement, the "Massey Pre-nup". It has become handy in times. Miles has a lot of confidence and is sure that he can't fail in a case.
Meanwhile, the wealthy Rex Rexroth (Edward Herrman) is cheating on his wife Marilyn (Catherine Zeta-Jones) with a blonde, young woman in a cheap motel. A private investigator, Gus Petch (Cedric the Entertainer), rushes into the room and get everything on tape. When Rex then tries to enter his house, Marilyn sends her new rottweilers to attack him.
Rex wants Miles to help him in the divorce, which Miles agrees to. Marilyn thinks that the divorce is her way to wealth and indepencence, but her friend Sarah (Julia Duffy) says that Miles Massey can be dangerous in these cases. Marilyn is still sure that she's going to win.
But her plan fails and she ends up with nothing after several evidence has been shown in the court. Because of that, she swears revenge on Miles. Then there's a lot of following events with unexpected effects. It's all very funny.
This is just my type of comedy. The humour isn't stupid, it's smart and that's what I like about it. George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones are both very good in their roles. George Clooney very often reminds me of Cary Grant in his way of acting in this black comedy.
It's all very funny but you need to pay attention or you won't understand what's happening. There's a lot of unexpected events and if you miss some, you'll might have a problem with understanding what's going on.
