The world is not enough

The world is not enough

Pierce Brosnan stars for the third time as agent 007, James Bond. Desmond Llewelyn's last Bond film. 1999. Director: Michael Apted.
The former KGB agent Renard (Robert Carlyle) who was trained to be an assassin by KGB but was dismissed because of his unstable mind. He's now a mad terrorist with plans of his own.
Renard kidnapped the billionaire heiress Elektra King (Sophie Marceau) and she's now safe, but Bond (Pierce Brosnan) is suppose to protect her from any more attempts of kidnapping.
Renard has been shot and the bullet is still stuck in his head. He's dying, slowly but surely. During the process, he looses his senses and can't because of that he can't feel anything. This makes him unaware of any pain that he would feel if he was normal.
Bond travel to Azerbaijan where Elektra is inspecting the building of a new oil pipeline. Her father, who was a personal friend of M, was very rich in his oil business, but Elektra didn't like him. She thinks that he was a selfish monster who didn't pay the ransom for her when she where held prisoner by Renard.
In the mountains, Bond and Elektra are attacked by unknown henchmen. Who sent them? Bond investigates for the safety of Elektra but realizes that she's might not as innocent as he first thought!
This is an entertaining Bond film, but sometimes not so very good. Sometimes just too much, but there's some really good scenes. Especially the ski chase, I just love it. Denise Richards as the Bond girl Christmas Jones is not much to notice because Sophie Marceau steals the show.
Renard is scary but sometimes just too mad to be taken seriously. The boat chase on the Thames is really good. The action scenes aren't bad at all, but the rest of the film is sometimes not so very good.
Desmond Llewelyn stars for the last time as Q. He died in a car crash in 1999, not long after the premier if the film. He starred as Q in 17 (!) Bond films. He appeared more then anyone else in the films about 007.
