I Confess

I Confess

Montgomery Clift and Anne Baxter stars in Alfred Hitchcock's movie from 1953 which takes place in Quebeq, Canada.

The priest Michael Logan (Montgomery Clift) hears some terrible things when the poor Otto Keller (O.E. Hasse) confess to him in the middle in the night. Otto tells Michael that he just murdered another man! Michael can't tell the police, because that Otto told him this in a confession.

Then Otto blaims Michael for the murder! Michael don't know what to do, he doesn't wan't to betray his god. Two young girls claim that they've seen someone in a cassock, but it was Otto, not Michael. But Michael can't prove it.

At the same time, Ruth (Anne Baxter) is in love with Michael. They were in love before World war II, but when Michael returned, he was all changed. Not the same man who left Ruth to fight in the war. Michael became a priest, and since then their love is lost. Ruth is married to another man, but still love Michael.

Will Michael tell the police the truth? Or will he be arrested, innocent, for a crime he didn't do?

This isn't Hitchcock's best movie, but it's pretty good still. It's not as thrilling as "Psycho" or "Vertigo", but is a good film.
