That thing you do!

That thing you do!

Tom Hank's comedy about the successes of a new band in the 60's. 1996. Director: Tom Hanks.
Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott) is a young man in Erie, Pennsylvania who dreams about being a professional drummer. For the time being, he has to work in his father's store. But when the drummer in a small local band is hurt and can't play the drums, the guys in the band asks Guy if he can be the substitute. Goy agrees and then they start rehearsing in a garage.
The writer of the band's songs, Jimmy (Johnathon Schaech) has written a ballad called That thing you do. During the rehearsel, Jimmy's girlfriend Faye (Liv Tyler) comes up with a name for the band. "The Oneders", which is pronounced "The ONE-ders". But nobody except for the band members understand that and they are then called "The Oh-needers" by all others.
When they play at a talent show, Guy starts playing to fast, and Jimmy are a bit angry, but preformes the song That thing you do in a rock'n'roll version. They win the contest and everyone loves their song. They deside to record the song and so they do with the help of Guy's uncle Bob (Chris Isaak). They perform at a restaurant at an airport, and people start buying their record which Faye sells.
A manager named Phil (Chris Ellis) hears them and tells them that he wants to make them into big stars. Thanks to him their song is played on the radio, which makes them crazy of happiness so that they dance aorund in Guy's father's store. They meet up with the successful manager Mr White (Tom Hanks) arrange for them to go on a tour with several other successful stars at the record company. Then months of success is in front of them, but for how long will their dream continue?
This is a funny, warm and colorful film about a band similar to The Beatles during the time of their break-trough. It's a nice film, but not one of the big blockbusters of our time. But it's great anyway. The music is great, the actors and good and it's well made.
