The Jewel of the Nile

The Jewel of the Nile

The follow-up of the blockbuster "Romancing the stone". 1985. Director: Lewis Teague.

Joan (Kathleen Turner) and Jack (Michael Douglas) have been living together on the boat "Angelina", named after Joan's fictionally hero in her books, for half a year. Joan can't come up with a good idea for her new book and becomes very upset. The couple then goes to a book-signing where Joan meets the Arab man Omar (Spiros Facos) who wants her to write a biography of his life.

After a quarrel, Joan leaves Jack to go with Omar to his city. The both of them is upset, but keep their feelings for themselves. Jack meet the dirty Ralph (Danny de Vito) who's been to prison for some time. Ralph isn't exactly polite, but before he has time to hurt Jack, a man with very long hair comes to the rescue. The next second, the "Angelina" is blown up. Jack becomes very angry, but agrees to come with the long haired man to Omar's city where trouble is about to happen.

Joan notice that Omar isn't telling her all the truth, so she tries to fly before he may do her any harm. But her attempt to fly doesn't succeed when she's trapped in a small prison with a man who's calling himself Al-Julhara (Avner Eisenberg). He and Joan escape and on the way out of the city, and there Joan falls from a roof, right on Jack who's there to free her, but he didn't do so well. He and Joan kiss and forgive each other for then.

"Al-Julhara" tells Joan that he's in fact the Jewel of the Nile. That's who Omar wants so that he can be king of the country. That can't happen, so Joan, Jack and "the Jewel" need to get to the city Kadir to stop it. Ralph is going there too, as a member of a group of people who wants to stop Omar. But it won't be easy, especially not when Jack and Joan seems to end up in just too much trouble on the way!

This is almost as good as "Romancing the stone", but not quit. But it's still very romantic, adventurous and filled with action. Joan and Jack climb steep cliffs, fight against natives who wants to marry Joan, hangs from trains and share some kisses.
