Singin' in the rain

Singin' in the rain

The classic musical with Gene Kelly. 1952. Directors: Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen.
It's 1929 in Hollywood. Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) are very popular on the big screen. They have done several silent pictures together, and according to rumours, they are allso a romantic couple. Lina is a stupid blond, with an awful voice.
When "The Jazz singer" opens all over the country, R.F. (Millard Mitchell) , the chief of Monumental Pictures where Don and Lina's pictures are produced, thinks that it isn't going to be a hit with talking pictures like "The Jazz Singer". But he is mistaking and when the audience is screaming for a talking picture with Don and Lina, there's trouble.
Lina's voice is so horrible that R.F., Don and all the others on the set can't risk it to make a movie with her voice. Then they come up with the most wonderful idea. The beautiful singer and dancer Kathy Seldon (Debbie Reynolds) can be Lina's "voice"! It seems like the perfect plan, but what will happen if Lina finds out that they don't want her voice?
This is a good musical. But not so good if it weren't for the songs and dance routines. Gene Kelly isn't much of an actor, but he's a wonderful dancer. That's the problem with this picture. The actors aren't good enough, but their more then good in the musical numbers. That's my opinion.

But I still recommend it. It's funny and happy, and Gene Kelly is really cute when he's tap dancing in the rain. And what a wonderful tap dancer he really is! In the number "Moses Supposes", he and Donald O'Connor allmost tap their feet off. Great!
